Retreat Among the Treetops

The goal was to give the third floor an entirely new identity—sophisticated, bold and a little unexpected. A place for a cocktail, a quiet afternoon with a book, or simply a moment away from everything downstairs. From forgotten gym to private retreat, this is a space designed to transport you.

The Client:

What was once an underutilized third-floor gym became a richly layered retreat designed for escaping the energy of the rest of the house. Surrounded by the treetops of Lincoln Park, the experience begins before you even enter. A concealed bookcase door leads into the study, revealing an intimate space with an unexpected sense of discovery. We incorporated the existing atrium and designed a dedicated bar for cocktails and entertaining, layering the space with saturated color, pattern, texture, art and collected pieces.
